Women of Faith speaker, Marilyn Meberg, asked in the Women of Faith blog this week, “If you could ask God just ONE question, what would you ask?” Wow, just ONE question? That’s a tough one. There are so many questions that come to mind. Inquisitive questions like “How do You make the world go around?” “How did you come up with the idea to make the leaves change color in the Fall?” or “How do you make the waves stop when they reach the shore?” And, of course, there are the angry questions like “why are there starving children in the world?” “Why are people like my friend, Lacey, taken from this world at such a young age?” and “Why must I be intolerant to dairy and soy?” (But of course, that last question seems rather stupid in light of the rest of them.)
One of my favorite movie lines ever comes from the movie Return to Me. When Grace, played by Minnie Driver, discovers she’s the recipient of Bob Rueland’s (David Duchovny) deceased wife’s heart, she wails “What was God thinking?” Let’s be honest here. We all have times in our life when we feel as though God turned his back for a moment and our world went awry. Though I might not voice it exactly the same, I can assure you there have been times in my life when I easily could have uttered the same words as Grace, “What was God thinking?”
But still, after much consideration, I’ve decided that none of these are the questions I’d ask of God, if I was only going to get ONE. Here’s what I’d ask; I’d ask God “why me?” Why would you choose to use me to tell others about You? The plan seems flawed. Why would God take a woman who messes up on a regular basis, has a bit of a temper, gets annoyed when people don’t agree with her (yes, it’s true; even agreeing to disagree annoys me), and though generally articulate, sometimes can’t get a thought out in a comprehensive manner, and use her to share Christ’s love? (I realize that’s more than ONE question, but you get the point.)
I am amazed really. And yet, that’s what the Bible tells us in John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit.” Crazy isn’t it? Even this truth makes you wonder “what was God thinking?” It will probably always baffle me and thus it’s my ONE question for God. What is yours?

Have you ever heard of the Nooma videos. Watch "Dust" it will probably make you cry a lot. I don't know why He trusts us to share His love.
